To my understanding, for an absolute majority of cancer cases in general (discounting the vagaries of specific cancer types and their very particular causes) the single biggest causal factor is uncontrollable genetic luck. I've seen this described many times, and even recall (without searching in detail right now) that something like 60% of all diagnosed cancers have no specific known cause except the luck of the DNA draw.

Interesting I couldn't find excess sun exposure in there for skin cancer, but I understand that those risks are greater in particular areas of the world (e.g. here in Australia)
